Military officials confirmed to the media that the person suspected of shooting at least five soldiers at Fort Stewart in Georgia was a sergeant in the service. Officials have also confirmed the alleged shooter’s identity.Â
Army officials identified the suspected shooter as 28-year-old Quornelius Radford, who authorities said had prior ties to Florida. Army officials confirmed during a press conference on Wednesday that he’s a sergeant in the Army and worked as an automated logistics specialist. They also said he had a prior DUI that they only found out about after the shooting.
According to the Army, Radford did not use a military service weapon during the shooting. Officials said he used a personal handgun.
Who was injured in the shooting?
Five soldiers were injured during the shooting and treated on-site before being moved to Winn Army Community Hospital, according to Fort Stewart officials. All five are in stable condition and are expected to survive.
According to the military, the suspect and the victims were all coworkers. However, they have not identified any of the victims.
“It did involve his co-workers. We’re still not certain about the motivations,” Brig. Gen. John Lubas said during the press conference.
Officials said authorities were dispatched just before 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, after the shooting was reported. Authorities say they arrested Radford less than an hour later. Following the arrest, authorities issued an all-clear just before 2 p.m.Â
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said the FBI dispatched personnel to respond to the scene. Investigators have not said why the suspected gunman started shooting.
