America has another Sanctuary City for the Unborn. On Tuesday, August 5th, the City Council of Douglassville, Texas (pop. 228) unanimously passed an ordinance further outlawing abortion in their community, and declaring their city a “Sanctuary City for the Unborn.” The 5-0 vote made the City of Douglassville, located at the junction of Hwy 8 and Hwy 77 in Northeast Texas, the 77th city in the nation and the 60th city in Texas to ban abortion. While the City Council first heard about the opportunity to pass the measure at a special called meeting on Thursday, July 31st, the measure was adopted at a second special meeting on Tuesday, August 5th. Councilwoman Kay Gilbert said, “If in 10 years this ordinance saves just one life then it was worth it.”

After the vote, Pastor Heston McLaurin of Douglassville Fellowship Church shared, “I’m very proud of Douglassville’s mayor, Dewitt McCall, for demonstrating urgent obedience in standing for the truth. He and the city council showed courage in their unanimous decision to protect the unborn.”
Pastor McLaurin shared his gratitude for where Texas currently stands in the fight against abortion. Pastor McLaurin shared, “I am grateful we are making headway in the fight against abortion. I thank the Lord for every step forward in defending the lives of unborn children. Proverbs 6:17 says that God hates ‘hands that shed innocent blood’ and He is the defender of the helpless. Christians are the pillar and support of the truth and the truth is that every child in the womb was knit together by God, bearing His image and is worth fighting for. I pray the Church continues to grow bold in her opposition to abortion and that we will imitate the Master in our defending the helpless.”
The City of Douglassville is the third political subdivision to have passed a Sanctuary for the Unborn” ordinance during Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s first special session of the 89th Texas Legislature, where he has called for the Texas Legislature to pass legislation further protecting pregnant mothers and their unborn children from the harm of abortion. Many cities throughout Texas have been considering the passage of such measures, including the cities of Hallettsville (pop. 2,756), Moulton (pop. 886), Albany (pop. 2,043) and Leary (pop. 605). Those who wish to see their city or county pass an ordinance further outlawing abortion in their community are encouraged to sign the online petition at www.
