One of America’s oldest newspapers is expanding its operation from just serving New York to also serving California.
The New York Post, which was launched in 1801 by the one and only Alexander Hamilton, is expanding to California with the introduction of The California Post.
“The California Post will be based in Los Angeles, and led by Editor-in-Chief Nick Papps, joined by a team of reporters across the state, while also leveraging the Post’s national resources,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“It will include a daily print newspaper, with front pages (or ‘woods’ as they are known in the business) that include the tone and tenor that the New York Post is known for, as well as a robust digital, social, audio, and video presence,” the reporting continues.

Owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., the New York Post has for years delivered tabloid content concerning primarily New York, especially New York City.
The California Post will basically be the California version of the New York Post, replete with the same grade of tabloid journalism and commentary.
More importantly, The California Post will provide pushback to the leftist propaganda propagated by the state’s mostly left-wing papers, including the Los Angeles Times.
“Los Angeles and California surely need a daily dose of The Post as an antidote to the jaundiced, jaded journalism that has sadly proliferated,” News Corp CEO Robert Thomson told the Reporter.
“We are at a pivotal moment for the city and the state, and there is no doubt that The Post will play a crucial role in engaging and enlightening readers, who are starved of serious reporting and puckish wit,” he added.
Keith Pool, the editor-in-chief of the New York Post, shared Thomson’s enthusiasm.
“This is the next manifestation of our national brand,” he told the Reporter. “California is the most populous state in the country, and is the epicenter of entertainment, the AI revolution, and advanced manufacturing — not to mention a sports powerhouse. Yet many stories are not being told, and many viewpoints are not being represented.”
“With The California Post, we will bring a common-sense, issue-based approach to metropolitan journalism. We’ll tell the stories that our readers care about the most, but others overlook, and we’ll do so with clarity and our trademark conviction, across print, digital, and the platforms where audiences live today,” he added.
The Post’s fans have since speculated that the paper’s center-right politics will drive California’s leftist readers insane:
Oh, my goodness! God speed! Liberals’ heads will explode!

What percentage of the population in California can read?
And what is the percentage of those who can, who can read English?

This is great for California and the country! Not every article is a winner, but you’re the only newspaper that consistently prints the truth

It’s so good to see traditional journalism growing. Thank you for keeping the truth alive in today’s terrifying world of algorithmic fake news. Democracy dies in darkness!

But there were some critics as well.
“In a long lost day & time, this probably would have worked in L.A.,” one critic opined. “But not now. Too many sources to find news and none of them are newspapers – digital or otherwise.”
That was a fair point. The public’s reliance on newspapers has dropped significantly in the past decade.
“Has this been reposted from @TheBabylonBee?” another critic wrote. “No legitimate business would move to LA under the current governor, except perhaps criminal gangs, pornographers, and corrupt government-sponsored NGOs. @Nypost must want to lose money!”
That was a fair point as well, given that California is America’s veritable s–thole state — one beset with overregulation, overtaxation, homelessness, substance abuse, and crime run amok.
However, the New York Post noted in a report of its own that the timing of the launch of the Cali Post is purposeful.
“The launch is timed to coincide with a high-profile period for the Bay Area and LA,” the report reads. “Not only are there elections being held in 2026, including for California governor, but the state will host matches during next year’s World Cup, and LA will welcome the Summer Olympics in 2028.”
