President Donald Trump blasted Democrats as “CRAZED LUNATICS” after a Senate impasse left his political nominees hanging.
Lawmakers broke for their August recess after a session on Saturday failed to deliver confirmations, with Trump raging at Democrats for “slow walking” more than 150 of his picks.
“Democrats, lead [sic] by Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, are slow walking my Nominees, more than 150 of them,” the president wrote on Truth Social late Sunday night.
“They wanted us to pay, originally, two billion dollars for approvals,” he added, accusing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and his Democrat colleagues of trying to use the confrimations as leverage.
“The Dems are CRAZED LUNATICS!!!” Trump fumed.
The president said in another blistering post on Saturday that Schumer could “GO TO HELL” after the attempt to gain funding agreements in exchange for votes. Trump called out the Democrat for “political extortion” over the “egregious” demands.
President Trump calls Chuck Schumer’s demand for $1 billion in exchange for confirmations “political extortion.”
This is unprecedented extortion and obstructionism. Tell the Dems to pound sand. They had their chance.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune indicated there may be a rule change coming in the future.
“I think they’re desperately in need of change,” Thune said Saturday.
“I think that the last six months have demonstrated that this process, nominations, is broken. And so I expect there will be some good, robust conversations about that,” he said after his failed negotiations with Schumer.
The Democrat leader was reportedly “negotiating with GOP leadership for $5 billion for the National Institutes of Health, $1 billion for the Global Fund, $300 million for the World Food Program, $50 million to fight HIV in developing countries, about $140 million for the United Nations Children’s Fund, and other money funding that had been previously approved,” according to CBS News.
Meanwhile, Schumer did what he could to frame the development as a victory for Dems.
“We were serious about trying to make some progress,” he said Saturday at a press conference. “But ultimately, Trump wouldn’t agree. He took his ball, he went home — leaving Democrats and Republicans alike wondering, ‘What the hell happened?’”
But Schumer would not elaborate on his demands for funding, notably unfreezing some aid for Palestinians.
“I’m not going to get into the details. Obviously, we’d all like to help Gaza, but the bottom line is, we were getting close on a whole lot of issues, and Donald Trump just pulled the rug out from under people,” he claimed. “And even before that, when it looked like we were getting close, a day before, he again called in and screwed it all up.”
Trump also lashed out at Democrats as “extortionists” in another post.
