President Donald Trump expressed enthusiasm after learning that actress Sydney Sweeney is registered as a Republican, following the political controversy surrounding her recent American Eagle jeans advertisement.
Reporters approached Trump for his reaction to Sweeney’s voter registration status after he arrived in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
The president did not hesitate to share his excitement about the revelation that the popular actress belongs to his political party.
“Oh, now I love her ad,” Trump responded when informed of Sweeney’s political affiliation.
The president continued his praise, stating his surprise at discovering another Republican in Hollywood’s traditionally liberal landscape.
“You’d be surprised at how many people are Republican. That’s one I wouldn’t have known, but I’m glad you told me that,” Trump said during the exchange with reporters at the Pennsylvania venue.
Trump concluded his comments by declaring, “If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.”
His endorsement came after initially remaining neutral on the advertising controversy.
Public voter records revealed that Sweeney registered with the Republican Party of Florida in Monroe County last June, according to information previously uncovered by the Daily Mail through their investigation into public documents.
This registration disclosure emerged amid intense criticism of Sweeney’s American Eagle advertising campaign, which sparked accusations from liberal critics who claimed the advertisement subtly promoted white supremacy and eugenics through its messaging.
The controversial advertisement features Sweeney discussing genetics while modeling jeans, creating a deliberate play on words between “genes” and “jeans.”
Liberal critics focused specifically on her references to genetic traits and physical appearance throughout the commercial.
In the promotional video, Sweeney explains how genes pass from parents to offspring and determine various traits including hair color, personality and eye color.
The camera follows her movements as she puts on jeans during this scientific explanation.
The advertisement includes Sweeney stating “My jeans are blue” while discussing how her body composition relates to her genetic makeup.
She playfully redirects viewers’ attention back to her face with the phrase “Hey, eyes up here.”
Liberal critics interpreted the “great genes” reference as coded commentary on Sweeney’s whiteness and conventional attractiveness standards.
These interpretations sparked widespread debate across social media platforms and news outlets.
Salon published detailed analysis connecting praise of genetic attributes to historical celebrations of specific physical characteristics, arguing that such language carries troubling historical connotations related to racial ideology.
Conservative defenders dismissed these interpretations as significant overreach, arguing that critics were either jealous of Sweeney’s natural beauty or deliberately reading unnecessary political meaning into a simple advertising pun about denim products.

Vice President JD Vance addressed the growing controversy during an appearance on The Ruthless Podcast, directly mocking Democratic critics’ response to the seemingly innocent advertisement featuring the popular actress.
“My political advice to the Democrats is continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi. That appears to be their actual strategy,” Vance said during the podcast interview.
Vance characterized the liberal reaction as revealing something fundamentally problematic about Democratic thinking patterns, describing Sweeney as representing traditional American values and beauty standards that Democrats apparently oppose.
The veep elaborated on his criticism, stating that Democrats have “managed to so unhinge themselves” over what he characterized as “a normal, all-American beautiful girl doing like a normal jeans ad” designed to sell products to American consumers.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) joined the growing conservative defense on social media platform X, writing, “Wow. Now the crazy Left has come out against beautiful women. I’m sure that will poll well….” His post garnered thousands of likes and shares.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung also publicly supported Sweeney, describing the liberal criticism as “cancel culture run amok” and directly attributing such warped thinking to the reasons Americans voted Republican in 2024.
Cheung’s statement continued, calling the liberal interpretation “moronic, and dense liberal thinking” that represents “a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024.”
“They’re tired of this bull**t.”
