President Donald Trump joined a small group of former presidents in an exclusive exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum showcasing a history of impeachment proceedings.
According to Breitbart, the museum has taken flak from Democrats after it apparently temporarily removed an exhibit regarding Trump’s two impeachment proceedings, both of which occurred in his first term in office.
Democrats accused the president of “pressuring” the museum to remove the exhibit, but the museum swears that it wasn’t a result of pressure from the president.
Smithsonian officials promised that it would soon “update” the exhibit to include President Trump’s impeachment proceedings, preventing Trump-hating Democrats from completely losing their minds.
What’s going on?
A reference to Trump’s impeachment proceedings was removed from the exhibit at the museum in late July, sparking backlash from angry Democrats who accused the president of somehow leaning on museum officials to have it removed.
Breitbart noted:
The iconic museum stated Saturday it would “update” an exhibit “in coming weeks” at the National Museum of American History to “reflect all impeachment proceedings in U.S. history,” though it removed a makeshift reference to President Trump’s two impeachments from the exhibit in late July.
Democrats went as far as accusing Trump of using his influence to have the museum “rewrite” history, which was clearly not the case according to museum officials.
The Smithsonian released a statement on the situation, noting that it blamed the removal on aesthetics.
“The placard, which was meant to be a temporary addition to a twenty-five year-old exhibition, did not meet the museum’s standards in appearance, location, timeline and overall presentation,” the statement read.
It added, “It was not consistent with other sections in the exhibit and moreover blocked the view of the objects inside its case. For these reasons, we removed the placard. We were not asked by any Administration or other government official to remove content from the exhibit.”
Social media strikes back
California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office tried to accuse the Trump administration of “censoring” the Smithsonian’s exhibit. Social media was quick to retaliate.
Trump’s censoring the Smithsonian like it’s the Epstein List. History gets erased when it implicates him. https://t.co/7bq2tn2JqZ

“Soon enough we’ll be able to eliminate Newsom out of government,” one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, “Gavin Newsom stole the wildfire relief funds from California fire victims to fund his wife’s charity.”
