A Cincinnati single mother who suffered severe injuries during a violent street attack last month has spoken publicly for the first time since the incident.
The woman, identified only as Holly, expressed gratitude to supporters while revealing the extent of her ongoing recovery process.
Holly appeared on social media with visible injuries from the assault, including a blackened right eye and yellow bruising across her face.
She addressed the camera through tears, thanking those who have provided support during her difficult recovery period.
“I want to say thank you to everyone for all of the love and support. It’s definitely what’s keeping me going. And you have just brought back faith in humanity,” Holly stated in the video message.
The victim disclosed that her recovery has been challenging and continues to face significant health issues from the attack.
She specifically mentioned suffering from brain trauma as a result of the violent encounter.
“It’s been very, very hard, and I’m still recovering. I still have a very bad brain trauma,” Holly explained while showing the visible damage to her face.
The incident occurred during a street confrontation that was captured on video and subsequently went viral across social media platforms.
The footage showed multiple individuals surrounding Holly and an unidentified man, both of whom are white.
Video evidence revealed a group of mostly black men attacking the two victims, who were punched and stomped while on the ground.
The assault resulted in Holly bleeding from her mouth as she lay defenseless during the attack.
The viral nature of the video footage brought widespread attention to the case, generating significant public interest and outrage.
Social media users shared the disturbing images across multiple platforms, leading to increased scrutiny of the incident.
Law enforcement officials moved quickly to investigate the matter following the video’s circulation.
The Cincinnati Police Department launched a comprehensive investigation into the street attack.
Multiple suspects were identified through the video evidence and subsequent police work.
Law enforcement officials arrested several individuals in connection with the violent incident.
The arrested individuals face serious criminal charges related to their alleged participation in the street attack.
Prosecutors have filed multiple felony charges against the defendants in the case, according to New York Post reporting.
Montianez Merriweather, 34, was identified as one of the primary suspects in the case.
Police accused him of coordinating what they described as an “ambush” attack against the victims.
Merriweather has claimed that he was called racial slurs and spat upon before the physical altercation began.
This allegation has become part of the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the case.
Additional arrests included Jermaine Matthews, 39, and Dekyra Vernon, 24, who was identified as a bystander who allegedly joined the attack.
Vernon is believed to have sucker-punched Holly from behind before a male suspect struck her directly in the face.
Cincinnati Police Detective Barney Blank commented on Vernon’s involvement in the incident.
“She just interjected herself into a brawl on the street,” Detective Blank told Cincinnati.com regarding the female suspect’s participation.
All three suspects were charged with felonious assault, assault, and aggravated riot.
These charges reflect the serious nature of the allegations against the defendants in the case.
Family members of the arrested suspects have since attempted to frame the incident as racially motivated.
They argue that the case has received disproportionate attention due to the racial dynamics involved in the attack.
An unidentified family member of Merriweather spoke to WLWT outside the local courthouse, suggesting racial bias in the case’s coverage.
“If it was an African American woman who got knocked out … we wouldn’t have been going through all this,” the relative stated.
Holly has received significant financial support from the community through a GiveSendGo fundraising campaign.
The online fundraiser has collected more than $170,000 to assist with her medical expenses and recovery costs.
The victim expressed deep appreciation for the donations and support she has received from strangers across the country.
She specifically thanked contributors to the fundraising effort during her social media appearance.
“God bless you all. Thank you,” Holly concluded in her message to supporters, demonstrating the impact that community assistance has had on her recovery process.
