A redrawn map could plausibly allow the GOP to pick up five seats in the midterms. Democrats are crying foul—but it is, plain and simple, hardball politics. They’d do the same themselves if the tables were turned.
More Democrat hi-jinks and political theater because that’s all they’ve got. Fighting the Democratic process by stopping the democratic proces.
They’re headed to ….. Chicago. They’ve already made that city into a hellscape.
The GOP response?
Wall Street Journal: Texas Republicans vowed to take action if the House is unable to meet as scheduled Monday afternoon. “If a quorum is not present then…all options will be on the table,” state House Speaker Dustin Burrows posted. If they are in Texas, House members can be arrested by state police and forced to participate in the legislative session. They also could face the possibility of fines. “The future of our nation is at stake,” Republican state Rep. Jared Patterson posted on X. “We must send more Republicans to Congress to ensure that President Trump’s America First Agenda is fully enacted” (Wall Street Journal).

Today 51 Democrats fled Texas to block the Republicans redistricting map, it turns out they’ve done this before in Texas In 2021 Democrats pulled this same stunt to stop an election bill, “THE COURTS BACKED THE GOP and said lawmakers could be forced back” Democrats are going to lose “51 Democrats have fleed this state to block the Republicans redistricting map. So today House Democrats left Texas to stop Republicans from passing a redrawn congressional map, one that would add five red leaning districts ahead of 2026. With the GOP holding a majority, this was the only move Democrats had left. Leave, break quorum and grind the House to a halt. Can they do that?
Technically, yes. Legally, no. Under Texas law, lawmakers who skip sessions to block legislation can be fined, arrested or even held in contempt. The attorney general says they’ll assist law enforcement to bring them back. And Governor Abbott is fully on board. The Texas Constitution allows each chamber to compel attendance and punish disorderly conduct. Some people are now saying a manhunt is going to begin. But in 2021, Democrats pulled the same stunt over an election bill and the courts backed the GOP and said lawmakers could be forced back. And now it’s happening again. And this matters because this redistricting map could reshape power in Texas for the next decade, and Republicans are working to lock that in before 2026.
It’s kind of crazy because Texas Democrats are literally on the run trying to stop the GOP from redrawing these districts.(Wall Street Apes)
Texas Democrats leave state to try preventing vote on redrawn House map
The new map could lead to the GOP gaining up to 5 seats
By Nicholas Ballasy, Just The News, August 3, 2025 5:09pm
Texas Democrats are leaving the state and heading to Chicago to try to block the state House from voting Monday on a new congressional map.
Texas Democratic leaders are scheduled to hold a news conference with Illinois Governor JB Pritzker after their arrival in the state.
The new map could lead to Republicans gaining up to 5 additional U.S. House seats in the 2026 midterm elections.
The Associated Press reported that leaving the state as a way to stop the vote puts Democrats at risk of fines and other penalties.
DNC Chair Ken Martin released a statement on Sunday in support of Texas Democrats.
“For too long, Donald Trump and Republicans have tried to get away with rigging the system, breaking the rules, and scheming to hold onto power. It’s time to fight back. Republicans are going after people’s health care, jobs, and pocketbooks while wrecking the economy to protect or enrich a handful of elites — and then they think they can get away with it by rigging the maps to overrule the will of voters.”
He said the DNC is “proud to support these legislators in standing up and showing real leadership” in the state.
“We will fight alongside them to stop this anti-democratic assault. And, after this fight is done, we’re coming full force for the Republicans’ House majority,” he said.
