The detainees being held in Florida’s “Alligator Alcatraz” have officially entered the hunger strike phase.
Complaining about the conditions within the facility, detainees have been voluntarily refusing to eat for more than two weeks. One man, Pedro Hernández, has been hospitalized during this time but is still refusing food, which has his wife concerned.
“My husband was in prison. We make mistakes, but we learn from them and fix things,” Daimarys Hernández said to NBC6. She admitted that she was fearful for his condition and continues to worry that he will be deported back to Cuba without her.
“We’ve all been hungry since Tuesday. I’m not going to eat another plate of food until they show us respect,” the detainee said in a recorded call.
Democrats held a town hall on Thursday, demanding reforms from the recently constructed facility.
“Florida has struck an unholy bargain with the Trump administration,” said one person. “People are not getting food, hygiene, or medical care. These conditions are substandard and cause irreparable harm.”
“CNN reported that the detainees have raised concerns, citing a lack of food, backup toilets filled with fecal matter due to inadequate water pressure, and mistreatment by guards. They also claim they are being denied the ability to contact and meet with their lawyers,” reported CBS12. “Additionally, CNN said that a federal judge recently addressed a legal case brought by the detainees’ attorneys. The judge noted there was ‘confusion’ regarding who was operating the facility.”
X users discussed the issue:
Lol! You’re joking … right ? It is a holding facility…. they are there just long enough to be processed and sent packing back to the country that they left to enter ours illegally. They will be okay. I promise. Smh

Honest question – is there any actual evidence that these are the conditions there? (a claim by someone with the MOST to gain by it is not evidence).

Keep posting about it. It’s the best marketing to get people to self deport.
