If you needed another example of left-wing lunacy in action, look no further than Victoria, Australia. Facing a wave of migrant-fueled knife crime, the state’s leadership has come up with the kind of plan that would make President Trump double over in laughter — or disbelief.
Instead of confronting the real source of the violence, the Victorian government has rolled out a “Machete Amnesty” — yes, seriously — encouraging citizens to surrender their machetes in brightly colored disposal bins at police stations across the state. The idea? If good citizens turn in their gardening tools and jungle blades, somehow the thugs causing chaos on the streets will magically follow suit.
Starting September 1, it will be a criminal offense to own, carry, use, buy, or sell a machete without a special government exemption. The penalties? Up to two years in prison or a $47,000 AUD fine.
Meanwhile, Victoria police are confiscating 44 knives a day on average — a number that should scream about the growing lawlessness, not the need for more rules targeting law-abiding citizens.
Premier Jacinta Allan boldly declared, “These knives destroy lives – so we’re taking them off the streets.” But here’s the truth: knives aren’t the problem. The people wielding them are — and more often than not, those people aren’t exactly lifelong Aussie citizens.
This is what happens when wokeness replaces reality. Instead of cracking down on gangs, violent migrants, and youth offenders, Victoria is throwing plastic bins at the problem and hoping it goes away.
You can’t fix cultural rot with amnesty bins. And as Trump would say: “When you import the third world, you get third-world problems.”
