Trump’s name was withheld because he was a private citizen when the Epstein investigation began in 2006, and the FBI invoked exemptions related to unwarranted invasions of privacy. Internal tensions reportedly emerged within the FBI over how to handle the redactions, with at least one official forced to retire after pushing back.
