Budapest will once again become the fashion capital of Central Europe as the Budapest Central European Fashion Week (BCEFW) returns for its 16th edition between 1 and 7 September. Organized by the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (MDDÜ), the event highlights the creative pulse of Hungary and its regional neighbours.
This autumn’s fashion week brings together nearly 100 designers from Hungary, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, and Ukraine. For the first time in BCEFW history, graduating students from two leading Hungarian universities: the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) and the Budapest Metropolitan University (METU) will present their diploma collections, offering a glimpse into the future of fashion innovation.
‘BCEFW has become a professional milestone,’ CEO of the MDDÜ Zsófia Jakab said, adding that this year’s format reflects a growing commitment to supporting the next generation of designers. According to her, giving space to emerging talent is a top priority.
Beyond runway shows, Budapest’s streets, cultural venues, and shops will be filled with fashion-focused events, from industry panels and pop-up experiences to store openings and educational forums. The National Museum will host METU’s graduate showcase on opening day, while MOME will stage its own fashion show and symposium on 4 September.
From 5–7 September, main catwalk shows will be held at the Apolló Gallery and Millenáris D building, while the National Dance Theatre becomes a Fashion Hub, hosting roundtables and workshops for professionals and enthusiasts alike.
The fashion week draws major attention from international media and experts. Editors of leading global magazines, stylists, and industry figures will be in attendance. Each season, the event attracts around 5–6,000 visitors.
About 60 per cent of the participating brands are run by young designers, underscoring BCEFW’s years-long investment in talent development. This ongoing collaboration with universities also includes giving hundreds of fashion students the chance to observe the runway events firsthand.
The overarching goal of the BCEFW is to raise awareness of Hungarian fashion brands and strengthen demand for local design. Through cross-border partnerships, the event acts as a bridge between regional fashion communities, helping Hungarian designers gain visibility abroad while welcoming others to Budapest’s growing creative industry.
