Billionaire Elon Musk is quietly becoming one of the largest Republican megadonors of 2025—dropping tens of millions into conservative causes as his third-party fantasy fizzles.
On June 27, Musk wired $5 million to two GOP super PACs that support Republicans in the House and Senate.
The move instantly made him the top individual contributor to both PACs during the first half of this year, according to federal filings released Thursday.
That same day, he also sent $5 million to President Donald Trump’s super PAC, MAGA Inc.
In total, Musk shelled out over $45 million to his own America PAC between January and June. Of that, nearly $28 million came in the form of in-kind donations, while $17.9 million was handed over in cash. Some of that money funded $1 million “rewards” for voters who signed petitions.
America PAC burned through $47.3 million in that same six-month period, including $15.5 million in the first week of April alone. That week, the group dumped serious cash into the Florida special House elections and the Wisconsin state Supreme Court race.
The PAC spent another $6 million on boots-on-the-ground field operations and canvassing. A few million more went to mailers, digital ads, and phone outreach, according to the Conservative Brief.
Despite Musk’s public attempt to distance himself from Trump earlier this year, the tech billionaire appears to be financially all-in on the GOP ahead of the 2026 midterms.
The full scope of Musk’s political giving isn’t even clear yet. Many PACs aren’t required to disclose donors, and more filings are expected by Thursday night’s FEC deadline.
This level of spending isn’t new for Musk. In 2024, he donated over $250 million—mostly to help re-elect Trump.
But what’s raising eyebrows now is how much he’s spending on his own political venture while still bankrolling Trump.
Earlier this month, Musk announced he was forming a new third party, the “America Party.” That announcement came after the time period covered in Thursday’s filings, so it’s unclear how much of his PAC cash will fund that effort moving forward.
A recent CNN poll shows Americans might want a third party—just not one run by Musk.
According to the poll, 63% of adults want a new party to challenge Democrats and Republicans. But only 25% said they’d support one led by Musk. A brutal 74% said they wouldn’t.
“Jeez Louise, Musk’s 3rd party looks close to dead on arrival,” CNN data analyst Harry Enten posted on X.
Musk’s personal favorability is also tanking. The same poll showed just 23% of Americans view him positively, while 60% have an unfavorable opinion.
The poll, conducted July 10–13 with 1,057 adults, carries a margin of error of ±3.5%.
So far, no one knows what Musk’s America Party even stands for—or if it can get enough signatures to make the ballot.
Trump didn’t hold back in mocking the idea.
“He even wants to start a third political party, despite the fact that they have never succeeded in the United States,” Trump said on Truth Social. “The system seems not designed for them.”
