Everyone talks about how Jan. 6, 2021, was supposedly an insurrection, but what about Jan. 6, 2017?
House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) Chairman Rep. Rick Crawford (R-AR) said on The Federalist Radio Hour that declassified documents show that holdovers from the Obama administration and the deep state used an intentionally faulty intelligence assessment to sow doubt about the election through the Trump Russia collusion narrative.
It didn’t start on Jan. 6, 2017, but that was the date an Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) came out that was filled with dubious and false information meant to derail and destroy Trump’s presidency.
“Forgive me for being coarse, but these [intelligence] analysts, for lack of a better term, crapped all over ICD [Intelligence Community Directive] 203. They did not follow it in the slightest,” Crawford said.
False narrative
What he meant was that the analysts did not follow required analytic standards in the assessment and instead put forward the narrative they thought would hurt Trump, whom they hated.
“It was ignored and they went forward with their own narrative that was done simply to discredit President Trump and to spin a narrative that was false: That he was involved with [Russian President] Vladimir Putin in helping to change the outcome of the election,” he added.
Crawford has known about the false narrative and Obama’s involvement in it since at least 2020, but it took time for the documents to be declassified, particularly when former President Joe Biden took office in 2020 and refused to declassify the report in question.
The documents show that then-CIA Director John Brennan ignored assessments from career CIA analysts who told him the Steele dossier was unreliable and other information that showed Russian President Vladimir Putin had no strong preference between Trump and Democrat opponent Hillary Clinton.
Confronted about the serious flaws in the Steele dossier, which the Clinton campaign paid for, Brennan said, “Yes, but doesn’t it ring true?’”
“It didn’t matter if it was true, as far as he was concerned. It rang true, so it was going to be central to their assessment,” Crawford said. “The analytic integrity was completely lacking.”
Psyop against the American people
Crawford characterized the intelligence community’s actions as a “Psyop” meant to fool the American people into thinking Trump cheated in the election- — and he alleged that Obama was directing the whole thing.
“So what we see here is a fraud, a hoax perpetrated on the American people at the expense of President Trump,” the congressman said. “And this was nothing more than a Psyop, a psychological operation against the American people, really under the direction of President Obama and conducted by the IC leadership team.”
He also called the media “willing accomplices” who took the false information and ran with it rather than investigating whether it was actually true.
“So the media essentially becomes not an unwitting player in this whole thing but a witting accomplice, like, ‘Yes, give us this information. We’ll help spin this. We’ll help sell it to the American people, we’ll help take down President Trump,’” Crawford said. “And they’re not about to admit that they made that mistake or that they were involved in that because that would be a huge revelation. It would discredit them all.”
