Hungary’s three major telecom providers, Magyar Telekom, Yettel, and One, have expanded roaming data limits and revised mobile subscription plans in early 2025 without raising prices, according to a semi-annual review released by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH).
The NMHH emphasized that monitoring market developments and subscription package changes remains a core responsibility. The review of the first half of 2025 reveals a shift in consumer offerings, especially in the wake of ongoing EU regulatory developments.
One of the most notable developments is that none of the companies implemented inflation-indexed price increases this year. This decision followed negotiations between telecom operators and the Ministry of National Economy in April, where all three providers committed to a one-year pause on inflation-related adjustments.
While Yettel had already raised its prices by 3.7 per cent in March, it later introduced a matching discount that applies automatically for a year. Telekom initially implemented a similar 3.7 per cent hike in January but withdrew it after talks with the ministry. One also suspended its planned May price adjustment, pushing it back to July 2026.
Alongside pricing, the content and structure of mobile plans have evolved. The report details how each provider launched new packages, with most of them retaining the same names but adjusting internal content. The updated offers include expanded EU-wide data, SMS, and voice usage, with roaming allowances incorporated into monthly plans.
Telekom streamlined its offerings for better clarity while preserving its flexible voice-data combo system. One kept last year’s plans active, adding three new tariffs. Yettel, meanwhile, fully replaced its lineup, although the changes were mostly minor.
Smaller adjustments were also made to prepaid segments, with increases in EU-usable data being the most prominent change.
The NMHH’s full report, which compares public subscription plans across the three major operators, offers a comprehensive snapshot of the Hungarian mobile market’s evolving landscape in the first half of 2025. It’s available here.
