FBI Director Kash Patel made headlines this week after he announced a bombshell discovery in a secret room at FBI headquarters that contained some very interesting documents.
According to the New York Post, a source close to the situation said Patel revealed this week that he uncovered “burn bags” filled with thousands of documents, dating back to the bureau’s Trump-Russia probe during the 2016 campaign.”
The revelation comes in the wake of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard releasing a trove of documents allegedly proving that former President Barack Obama is connected to the Russia hoax.
The term “burn bag” is used as a description for documents that are meant to be destroyed after a certain amount of time.
What’s going on?
Among the documents discovered in the burn bags, according to the source, was a 29-page appendix to the report issued by former Special Counsel John Durham, which had never been made public. It detailed the evidence he reviewed for “Crossfire Hurricane.”

The NY Post noted:
One of the documents, discovered in a purported secret room at the FBI’s DC headquarters, is a classified annex to the 2023 report by then-special counsel John Durham that scrutinized the original probe, code-named “Crossfire Hurricane.”
It was not made clear whether or not the documents uncovered by Patel and his people were already technically “destroyed” or never made it that far due to oversight.
Sources confirmed to the outlet that the annex of documents will be given to Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA), who will eventually ensure they’re released to the public.
The discovery of the documents sparked conversations across social media.
Social media reacts
Users commented on Patel’s discovery across social media, with some of them expressing skepticism and others wondering why the players in the Russiagate scandal aren’t in jail yet.
“Color me skeptical. They were identified, isolated, retrieved, gathered, and prepared for destruction…and then not destroyed?I’d speculate that it’s a trap. Use the documents and suddenly discover that they’re embarrassing fakes as prepared releases go out to the media,” one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, “Great job Kash Patel ! Save America. Save the children.”
It’ll be interesting to see what comes of the rest of the documents that were uncovered, if anything.
