Portland, ME City Councilwoman Regina Phillips claimed Monday non-white and transgender people are so scared of cops that they don’t call the police.
“Within the communities of color, they don’t call the police department, right?” Phillips said to Portland Police Chief Mark Dubois during a council workshop.
“At the beginning of the year, when Trump took office, there was a lot of hatred toward the trans community,” Phillips said to Dubois. “They don’t trust the police department. They’re not calling you. Members in the trans [community] are not calling the police department.”
Phillips provided no evidence to support her claims, but instead insisted Portland needs to “literally tear down the system and build it back up.” She also claimed that white people “have all of the power” in America.
