The Democratic Party is completing its turn this week into the anti-Israel party. As protestors have raged for years now, post-October 7, harassing, attacking, and murdering Jews and their American allies, Democrats are siding with evil.
Don’t take my word for it. Take the Pod Save America crew, all former Obama staffers who enforce popular opinion within the Democratic base. They came out strongly against Israel and demanded that no future Democratic candidate for president show overt support for Israel.
They summed it up: “We are not going back to the pre-October 7 status quo.” On that point, they are correct. The world has entered mask-off territory on Israel, Jews, and antisemitism. If you’re looking for ways to demonize Jews after the brutal terrorist attacks in Israel, that says more about you than anything else.
The world is not going back to a pre-October 7 status. When Democrats say this, they believe they are saying something profound. It’s not profound. They think things like a two-state solution, American aid to Israel, and more are still negotiable positions. They aren’t.
A two-state solution isn’t happening. That concept died 25 years ago in the Clinton administration when Israel offered that up, and the Palestinians walked away. They rejected the Clinton plans at Camp David, as they’ve rejected everything over the years, and chose terrorism.
October 7 was the final nail in the coffin. Take a look at any opinion poll on a two-state solution in Israel. You could find some support for it before October 7, but you won’t anymore.
That fictional ship has sailed and been sunk into the sea for a generation. The Pod Save America bros think American aid to Israel is essential. But they’ve apparently missed reality driving by them. America gives aid to Israel, in the form of money and hard military weaponry, to have a say in what happened (as we do to many countries).
The strikes Israel has conducted against Hezbollah, Iran, and Hamas have left all three decimated. Israel was refueling aircraft over Tehran in a show of sheer military dominance that no one in the region will miss. America joined the effort to bomb the nuclear sites; Israel did not need our help on anything else.
The Obama staffers come from an era that believed Iran could be ascendant. The myth of Iran as a serious regional player is dead. Through Trump and the Abraham Accords, which continue to expand, the region has found more long-term peaceful solutions than ever.
Neither the Obama nor the Biden administrations could build on or expand either. The world isn’t just in a post-October 7 world; we’re staring at a region where Iran has been neutered. A Democratic administration that hates Israel could enter office tomorrow, repeal aid funding (which Obama passed in Congress), and try to sanction Israel.
Those concepts would arrive a day late and a dollar short. Israel has economic ties with the entire Middle East, and controls its own destiny now. It is a new world.
That’s partially why radical leftists are lying so hard about what is happening on the ground in Gaza. The accusations are flying about Israel forcing famine on Gaza. The truth is the opposite: Hamas brings famine because it steals all aid and denies it to the people.
The New York Times ran a full story making these claims, even showing a picture of an alleged malnourished child on the front page. They had to run a retraction.
Seth Mandel nails it in Commentary when writing, “The truth, then, is that Hamas has engineered real suffering in Gaza, and the lie—that Israel is intentionally starving children—enables Hamas to engineer more suffering by creating global pressure on Israel to let Hamas control the aid again. That way Hamas can keep the cycle going.”
The world is different post-October 7, but the people still living in the past are the Obama bros and the Democrats with them. They’re desperately trying to get into the good graces of campus protestors who have attacked, harassed, and killed Jews.
That’s a lost cause. Those same radicals are attacking and smearing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders as too right-wing on the topic of Israel. When the socialists are too conservative for you, you’re a radical that should be ignored.
The truth is simpler: the radicals doing all these things want the same goals as Hamas: dead Jews. That’s the only end goal in mind. They reject anything less for the same reasons the Palestinians walked away from a two-state solution.
Accepting peace means they have to put down their arms against the Jews. That’s unacceptable for the campus radicals and Hamas. That’s who the Pod Save America guys are siding with while claiming the world is different.
They’re right. It is different. But the world that exists now is something they haven’t come to grips with, because they’re out of touch with reality.
