State Rep. Raghib Allie-Brennan, who was charged last month after police say he shoplifted from Target, has been charged with larceny again, police say.
Allie-Brennan, 34, turned himself into police on the strength of an active arrest warrant on Monday afternoon and was charged with sixth-degree larceny, the Bethel Police Department said in a news release.
Allie-Brennan was released on a promise to appear in court, and is scheduled to do so Aug. 5 in the Superior Court in Danbury, police said. Police did not release any information about the charges.
Allie-Brennan, a Democrat who represents Bethel and Danbury, was charged with sixth-degree larceny last month after police in Bethel said he was caught shoplifting at the Target. He claimed in a statement afterward that he had forgotten to scan some items as he was rushing to see his grandmother in the hospital, and had not stolen intentionally. However, police said at the time Target staff reported Allie-Brennan was believed to have previously shoplifted from the store as well.
Allie-Brennan’s attorney, Candace Fay, announced in a brief court appearance June 30 her client’s submission of an accelerated rehabilitation application. Accelerated rehabilitation is a pretrial program made available to first-time offenders that, if granted and successfully completed, can result in the expungement of their criminal record.
