President Donald Trump just significantly reduced the deadline that he had set for Russia to either make a peace deal with Ukraine or face the consequences for not doing so.
Newsmax reports that the deadline is now down to “10 or 12 days.”
Previously, the deadline had been set at 50 days. The reduction would suggest that Trump is not happy with how Russian President Vladimir Putin has responded to the situation.

The latest
Trump announced the new deadline during his visit to the United Kingdom.
ABC News reports Trump as telling reporters:
I’m disappointed in President Putin, very disappointed in him. So we’re going to have to look and I’m going to reduce that 50 days that I gave him to lesser number, because I think I already know the answer what’s going to happen. I’m going to make a new deadline of about 10 or 12 days from today.
Trump went on to say that “there’s no reason in waiting,” adding, “I want to be generous, but we just don’t see any progress being made.”
Changing terms
Previously, as stated, the deadline was set, by Trump, for Russia to reach a peace deal with Ukraine, at 50 days. He did, though, say that this is only a tentative deadline, and that it could be shortened.
Trump, at the time, said:
Well, at the end of 50 days, if we don’t have a deal, it’s going to be too bad. I don’t think 50 days is very long. It could be sooner than that
The question, of course, is what happens if Russia does not negotiate a peace deal by the deadline. Trump, thus far, has indicated that there will be “very severe” economic penalties for Russia.
No letting up
ABC notes that Trump shortened the deadline just after the drone attack that Russia launched against Ukraine over the weekend.
Per the outlet:
Trump’s remarks came hours after Polish and allied NATO aircraft were scrambled in response to a large Russian drone and missile attack launched into Ukraine on Sunday night, per a statement from Polish military’s Operational Command.
A statement from the command read, “Polish and allied duty aircraft have been scrambled and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have reached the highest state of readiness.”
ABC goes on to report that “The alert lasted for around three hours, after which the command posted another statement saying that ‘deployed forces and resources have returned to standard operational activities.'”
