A 76-year-old Illinois man has been charged with murder for gunning down his daughter-in-law because he was upset she was filing for divorce from his son.
Ronald Schmidt and Christine Moyer, 45, were both attending a wedding on Friday at a Marriott hotel in the Village of Schaumburg, Schaumburg Police said. When Moyer left the reception, Schmidt reportedly followed her outside to the parking lot “and shot her in the head.”
Moyer was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she later died.
Police said Schmidt “was being subdued on the ground by a citizen” when they arrived. A firearm was recovered nearby.
Schmidt has been charged with first degree murder and makes a first court appearance on Monday.
