July 28, 2025 – MIDTOWN, Manhattan, New York — A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest stormed a 44-story skyscraper on Park Avenue Monday evening, fatally shooting an NYPD officer and injuring at least five others, bringing the total number of shooting victims to six.
The shooter, armed with a rifle, opened fire around 6:30 p.m. inside the building that houses Blackstone and NFL headquarters, before barricading himself on the 33rd floor and dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The officer killed was assigned to a paid detail for Rudin Properties. Witnesses reported hearing what sounded like high-capacity automatic gunfire.
Two people, a man and woman, were taken into custody. One person was shot in the back. Police haven’t confirmed if those detained were involved.
