Cincinnati mayor Aftab Pureval has released his first statement after a video went viral on social media of a violent brawl in downtown Cincinnati early Saturday morning.
“I am outraged by the vicious fight that occurred downtown. It is horrifying to watch, and this unacceptable and disgusting behavior is intolerable in any part of our community,” the mayor’s statement began. “That’s not who we are as a city.”
It occurred early Saturday at the intersection of 4th Street and Elm Street.
In the video, you can see a man who falls to the ground and appears to struggle to get up as he’s repeatedly kicked and hit by multiple people.
Later on, a woman is seen being punched by a man before falling to the ground unconscious, her head slamming down onto the concrete.
“Since the fight occurred, I have been in consistent communication with Chief Theetge, and our police have been working around the clock to investigate and bring perpetrators of violence to justice,” the mayor continued. “Based on the investigation and the urgent work of our police, I am confident that arrests are forthcoming.
