The radical Left has found their latest manufactured outrage.
They’re claiming the deportation processing center in Florida’s Everglades is somehow inhumane.
But Ron DeSantis just delivered one reality check that left crying Democrats reaching for tissues.
The woke mob’s newest victim complex reaches absurd heights
Governor Ron DeSantis couldn’t hide his disbelief during a Tuesday press conference when he revealed the latest complaint from detainees at Florida’s Alligator Alcatraz deportation processing center.
The facility – officially housing some of the worst criminal illegal aliens including MS-13 gang members and violent felons – has become the Left’s newest cause célèbre.

Democrat Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz made her usual dramatic appearance on CNN, declaring the Everglades facility “inhumane” and demanding it be “shut the hell down.”¹
“The purpose of this setup is to have the cruelty be the point,” Wasserman Schultz claimed with her trademark theatrical outrage.²
But here’s what the Florida congresswoman conveniently left out of her CNN performance.
The facility features 24/7 air conditioning across more than 158,000 square feet of housing space.
It’s built with a fully aluminum frame structure rated for 110-mile-per-hour winds, complete with backup generators.³
The center also provides round-the-clock medical facilities and pharmacy services, indoor and outdoor recreational yards, legal support, clergy services, and laundry facilities.⁴
So what exactly are these criminal illegal aliens complaining about now?
DeSantis drops the hammer on entitled deportees
The Florida governor wasn’t having any of the manufactured outrage when he addressed the media Tuesday.
“They’re making these claims, and they’re saying, ‘Oh, they’re not fed,’” DeSantis explained. “First of all, they’re fed the same that the staff is fed.”⁵
He pointed out the obvious difference between a deportation processing center and the prison system.
“It’s not a prison. It’s a deportation processing center. So it is different. But like in Florida prisons, do you think the prisoners get the same meals as the guards?” DeSantis asked. “No. Of course not. It’s different.”⁶
Then came the revelation that perfectly captures just how ridiculous the Left’s complaints have become.
“They were mad that the ham sandwiches weren’t toasted,” DeSantis said. “Excuse me? I mean, give me a break.”⁷
Think about that for a moment.
These are criminal illegal aliens who broke into our country, committed additional crimes once here, and are now being processed for deportation in a facility that provides better accommodations than many American homeless shelters.
And they’re complaining about sandwich preparation.
The Department of Homeland Security sets the record straight
The establishment media has been working overtime to paint Alligator Alcatraz as some kind of concentration camp.
But Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin wasn’t about to let those lies stand unchallenged.
“Any claim that there is a lack of food or subprime conditions at ICE detention centers are categorically false,” McLaughlin stated.⁸
She laid out exactly what these detainees receive: “All detainees are provided with proper meals, medical treatment and have opportunities to communicate with their family members and lawyers. Meals are certified by dieticians.”⁹
McLaughlin then asked the question every American should be asking: “Why does the media continue to push the lies of criminal illegal aliens in detention and villainize ICE law enforcement?”¹⁰
It’s a fair question. Why is the media more concerned about the comfort of criminal illegal aliens than the safety of American citizens?
Who exactly is housed at Alligator Alcatraz
The Left wants you to forget that this facility isn’t housing innocent families seeking asylum.
Alligator Alcatraz holds “some of the worst of the worst migrant criminals” – primarily military-aged males who pose serious threats to public safety.¹¹
Among the detainees is an MS-13 gang member who goes by the nickname “Satan” and a Cuban migrant arrested for cutting the throat of an elderly woman in Key Largo, Florida.¹²
These are the individuals the Left is demanding receive toasted sandwiches and five-star treatment.
Meanwhile, American veterans sleep on the streets and elderly Americans choose between prescription medications and groceries.
The bigger picture Democrats don’t want you to see
DeSantis made clear that the facility meets all Department of Homeland Security requirements.
“DHS required the facility to have certain things, including legal and recreation,” the governor explained. “So I’m confident that whatever is required will be set.”¹³
The complaints about untoasted ham sandwiches reveal something much deeper about our current political moment.
The radical Left has spent so long convincing illegal aliens that they’re entitled to every comfort and convenience that even criminal deportees now feel justified complaining about meal preparation.
This entitlement mentality is exactly what got us into this immigration mess in the first place.
For decades, Democrats have sent the message that breaking into America comes with no consequences – only benefits.
Now that the Trump administration is finally enforcing immigration law, the Left is having a complete meltdown over basic deportation processing.
The ham sandwich controversy perfectly illustrates how far removed from reality the Democrat Party has become.
They’re more concerned about sandwich toasters for criminal illegal aliens than they are about American citizens being victimized by the very criminals housed at Alligator Alcatraz.
This is what happens when political correctness becomes more important than common sense.
DeSantis deserves credit for calling out this absurdity. While Democrats manufacture outrage over food preparation, Florida’s governor is focused on protecting his citizens from dangerous criminals.
The choice couldn’t be clearer.
Americans can support politicians who prioritize criminal illegal aliens getting toasted sandwiches, or they can back leaders who prioritize deporting them back where they came from.
