Rep. Dwayne Yunker applauds President Trump’s Executive Order Ending Crime and Disorder on America’s Streets

Grants Pass, OR — Following President Trump’s Executive Order yesterday to restore public safety and expand civil commitment for the homeless and mentally ill, Representative Dwayne Yunker (R–Grants Pass) today applauded the action and sharply criticized Governor Tina Kotek for signing HB 3644 last week, calling it “another failed attempt to manage homelessness with slogans instead of solutions.”
“President Trump’s Executive Order puts public safety and accountability first. In contrast, Governor Kotek’s approach, cemented by HB 3644, throws hundreds of millions at the failed “housing first” model with no requirement for treatment or behavioral change,” said Representative Yunker.
Representative Yunker has repeatedly introduced legislation to repeal or reform HB 3115, which restricts Oregon’s cities from enforcing public camping laws. Despite last year’s U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding cities’ rights to regulate encampments, Democrats in Salem blocked every attempt.
“The Supreme Court sided with common sense. Local governments must have the authority to keep streets safe. Instead, Oregon Democrats continue to tie cities’ hands while enabling addiction and chaos,” Representative Yunker said. “HB 3115 must be repealed.”
“President Trump understands what Oregonians are demanding: restore order, require treatment, and stop enabling dysfunction,” said Representative Yunker. “I will continue pushing for serious, enforceable reforms in this state, because shelter without standards is not compassion.”
