Authorities are investigating the hit-and-run incident involving a suspect (Alejandro Christopher Velazquez Lopez) who reportedly struck three teenagers changing a tire on an Oregon highway, resulting in one tragic death. State police believe the suspect may have fled the country. The unfortunate incident took place early Sunday morning, July 12, around 3:15 a.m. on Highway 18 in Tillamook County, close to Grand Ronde. Reports indicate that three 17-year-old boys were in the process of fixing a flat tire on a black Nissan Altima parked on the eastbound shoulder. Meanwhile, 34-year-old Alejandro Christopher Velazquez Lopez from Tillamook was driving east in a white Honda Civic when he allegedly veered off the road and collided with all three teenagers, failing to stop afterward.
The teens were transported to the hospital, but one succumbed to injuries two days later.
Due to the seriousness of the crash, the highway was closed for more than 11 hours while investigators worked at the scene.
