SANTA ROSA, FL – A Florida man already facing numerous charges for allegedly using hidden cameras to record women without their consent is now under investigation in another county. Authorities in Santa Rosa County are examining additional allegations against 28-year-old David Van Moorsel, who was arrested in July and initially charged with a slew of offenses, including video voyeurism.
The investigation began when law enforcement in Volusia County, where Van Moorsel was first arrested, alerted Santa Rosa authorities to potential crimes he may have committed in the Panhandle region. Van Moorsel, a personal trainer, was taken into custody at his workplace following accusations that he secretly recorded his ex-girlfriend and her roommate in their DeLand home.
New charges brought by Santa Rosa County include serious offenses such as sexual battery and further counts of voyeurism. Detectives report that Van Moorsel used multiple hidden cameras placed in private areas, including a bathroom and a bedroom bookcase, to capture intimate footage without the victims’ knowledge.
The investigation also uncovered numerous videos of women exercising at the gym where Van Moorsel was employed. While these recordings were made in public areas and do not violate state laws, authorities believe the women were unaware they were being filmed.
Santa Rosa County officials stress their commitment to thoroughly investigate all allegations, particularly those infringing on the privacy and safety of residents. “We take these types of crimes extremely seriously,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson stated.
Van Moorsel’s arrest has kept him incarcerated at the Volusia County Jail for more than three weeks. The ongoing investigation may lead to additional charges as detectives continue to gather evidence.
