Seattle activists have returned to a tired, dramatic, and absurd trope of dystopia and oppression to justify their latest low-attendance protest. This Saturday, they’re gathering for a rally ominously titled “Under His Eye, We All Die”, complete with imagery from “The Handmaid’s Tale,” to warn us that America is sliding straight into Gilead. Cue the red robes and winged hats, and angry chants.
“Join us for a powerful visual protest, short march, and rally as we channel the imagery of The Handmaid’s Tale to spotlight the growing assault on women’s rights across the United States,” the protest’s organizers claim. “From the rollback of reproductive freedoms to the looming threat of Project 2025, we gather in solidarity to reject extremist policies and demand a future where bodily autonomy, equality, and justice are protected for all.”
There’s been no assault on women’s rights, and Project 2025 fearmongering is so 2024.
I assumed the Radical Left forgot their sad, embarrassing ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ claims
Despite alarmist PR, there’s been no assault on women’s rights.
It’s easy to see, however, how the Radical Left could be confused: they cannot define a woman. But there’s been no forced-birth clinics, no surveillance of private medical decisions, and abortion services are happening more often now than ever.
Abortion isn’t federally banned. And bringing the issue back to the states after the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs did not result in fewer abortions. Quite the opposite. Abortion rates have increased nationally, with reports showing a rise from 1.05 million abortions in 2023 to 1.14 million in 2024. Through July 2025, the numbers continue to see an upward trend.
Protesting democracy and states’ rights
Seattle’s rally will feature stark visuals, theatrical slogans, and readings from “The Handmaid’s Tale” because it gives lonely, octogenarian protesters something to do on an otherwise boring weekend. But spectacle doesn’t equal substance. No matter how dramatic the costumes, the numbers tell a different story: abortion access is up, and reproductive care continues, mostly unfettered. No dystopian dark future has arrived—not today, not tomorrow.
Women aren’t being forced into pregnancy by the patriarchy, despite what these red-robed revolutionaries scream into their bullhorns. In fact, if there’s any actual threat to women right now, it’s coming from the very people pretending to protect them. The Radical Left wants to force young girls and women to compete against athletically superior boys and men in sports — undermining the very concept of women’s rights. So no, the threat isn’t over. It’s just not coming from conservative lawmakers or the Supreme Court. It’s coming from the side wearing Handmaid costumes while actively erasing what it means to be a woman.
They seem to be upset with representative democracy itself. President Donald Trump won in a landslide, upsetting the Radical Left. And, of course, they hate states’ rights when they don’t control the states. What activists are really protesting is American federalism—the idea that states can reflect the will of their citizens, whether liberal or conservative. They’ll cry “we all die” because that’s catchy. Turns out, though, what’s truly in danger isn’t women — it’s the notion that majority rule matters.
