In a highly unusual move, the Trump Administration’s DOJ, through the Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, met with convicted felon and former Epstein partner Ghislaine Maxwell in Tallahassee, Florida today.
She is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for child sex trafficking, although her conviction is on appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, as her attorneys claim she did not receive a fair trial back in 2022.
Yesterday, the House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer issued a subpoena for Maxwell for a deposition to occur at the prison on Aug. 11 which will be public, as she addresses questions from Congress. (Source.)
So why exactly did the DOJ interview Maxwell today?
This is the “official” public statement by the DOJ:
“President Trump has told us to release all credible evidence. If Ghislaine Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say,” Blanche said in the statement posted by Attorney General Pam Bondi on X earlier this week. Others, however, are speculating that Trump wants to give Maxwell a deal to prevent her from exposing him and others, such as a pardon or commuting her sentence.
