Jody Barrett has signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, a written commitment to Tennessee voters to oppose and vote against any and all income tax increases.
Barrett is running in the upcoming special election to replace Rep. Mark Green, who recently resigned from Congress. With this open seat, Tennessee voters have a critical opportunity to elect a representative committed to protecting taxpayers and promoting fiscal responsibility.
By signing the Pledge, Barrett commits to protecting hardworking taxpayers from tax hikes and to supporting fiscally responsible, pro-growth policies.
Americans for Tax Reform applauds Barrett’s decision to sign the Pledge, recognizing it as a clear and public commitment to Tennessee taxpayers that he will work to stop tax increases and fight for limited government.
The Taxpayer Protection Pledge, created by Americans for Tax Reform in 1985, has been signed by over 1,400 federal and state officials. It was strongly supported by President Ronald Reagan and remains a key benchmark for candidates who support limited government and lower taxes.
Currently, 191 U.S. Representatives and 44 U.S. Senators have signed the Pledge. While 85% of Republicans in Congress have signed, zero congressional Democrats have made the same written commitment.
Unfortunately, they seek to reverse course and implement backwards tax-and-spend policies that would only stunt economic growth and take more money out of the hands of taxpayers.
Barrett joins a growing number of candidates nationwide who have made a clear promise to stand with taxpayers and oppose efforts to raise taxes.
