The Department of Justice secretly met with Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, as the Trump administration faces immense backlash for delaying the release of the Epstein files.
Attorney General Pam Bondi and President Donald Trump, among others, are accused of an Epstein “cover-up.”
As the Daily Mail reported, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche flew to Florida and met with Maxwell, who was convicted of child sex trafficking crimes.
The meeting comes as the “MAGA” base is infuriated with the Trump administration for its inaction on the Epstein files.
Following the intense meeting, Maxwell’s attorney publicly stated that the convicted child sex trafficker answered every question, per the Daily Mail.
“Miss Maxwell answered every single question. She never stopped, she never invoked a privilege, she never declined to answer… She answered all the questions truthfully, honestly and to the best of her ability. And that’s all the comment we’re going to have today about the meeting. We don’t want to comment about the substance of the meeting, for obvious reasons, and we’ll go from there,” appellate lawyer David Markus said.
Blanche reportedly entered the courthouse in Tallahassee, Florida, around 9 a.m. Maxwell’s attorneys were also seen entering the federal building.
In a statement to ABC News, Markus, said, “We’re looking forward to a productive day.”
In June 2022, Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years behind bars after being convicted “for her role in a scheme to sexual exploit and abuse multiple minor girls with Jeffrey Epstein over the course of a decade,” as the Department of Justice stated.
On Tuesday, Bondi revealed that Blanche was seeking an interview with Maxwell to find out how much she knows about Epstein’s heinous crimes.
“President Trump has told us to release all credible evidence,” Blanche said in a statement posted on X. “If Ghislane Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say.”
Maxwell is scheduled to testify before Congress on Aug. 11.
“I can confirm that we are in discussions with the government and that Ghislaine will always testify truthfully,” Markus said. “We are grateful to President Trump for his commitment to uncovering the truth in this case.”
Several Democrats criticized the Trump DOJ for secretly meeting with Maxwell.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) likened the move to “high corruption.”
“Let me be clear: Trump sending his personal lawyer, Todd Blanche, to meet with Ghislaine Maxwell stinks of high corruption and conflict of interest,” Schumer said on X.
California Sen. Adam Schiff (D) has also criticized the president for delaying the release of the files. However, for years, the California Democrat never spoke a word about Epstein.
“Trump told the press he was not informed that his name was in the Epstein files. Now we learn that this was a lie. He was told by Bondi, his former criminal defense lawyer and now the AG. Time to end the Trump/Epstein cover-up. Release the files,” Schiff said.
