Second Amendment, immigration and diversity policy vetoes from Gov. Josh Stein are expected to get override votes starting Tuesday in the General Assembly.
Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger said the first-term Democratic governor’s actions are “out of touch with the people of North Carolina.” He said the Senate would also be considering a bill to implement President Donald Trump’s school choice tax credit program.
“He tolerates criminal illegal aliens roaming our streets, divisive ‘DEI’ concepts in our schools, and government infringement on our Second Amendment rights,” said the 13th term Republican from Rockingham County. “I look forward to leading Senate Republicans in overriding these harmful vetoes and putting North Carolina families first.”
Speaker Destin Hall, R-Caldwell, in the House of Representatives has given similar intent regarding vetoes by the former state attorney general.
“He stands with criminal illegal aliens and the most radical elements of his party’s base over the safety and security of North Carolinians,” Hall said. “Make no mistake, the North Carolina House will override the governor’s veto at the earliest opportunity.”
