The vice mayor of Vero Beach, Florida is refusing to resign despite facing a state investigation for allegedly exposing children to a “sexualized performance” at a bar she owns.
Linda Moore owns Kilted Mermaid in Vero Beach, and she held a “Pride Tea Dance” at the bar last month. The event featured drag queens and was advertised as open to “all ages,” according to the bar’s social media.
Moore claimed during a city council meeting Tuesday that the first drag show at the event is typically “more family-friendly.” However, Florida AG James Uthmeier subpoenaed the vice mayor Tuesday for surveillance video recordings, alleging children may have been present for “adult, sexualized performers,” which would violate Florida law.
“The whole room was filled with this unmitigated joy,” Moore said of the Pride event. “And I’m here to tell you, in this current political climate, you don’t get a lot of joy happening.”
“So, if any of you were going to come up here and ask me to resign … spoiler alert, it’s not actually going to happen,” she continued.
