Late-night host Stephen Colbert declared he is a “martyr” after his show was canceled and took a profane shot at President Donald Trump, telling him to “go f*ck” himself.
During Monday’s episode of “The Late Show,” the comedian unleashed on the network and the decision to cancel the long-running show, declaring the “gloves are off,” intimating that he can say whatever he wants before going off the air next May.
Colbert also aimed a direct and crude message to Trump, who celebrated the news that CBS had made the financially necessary decision to end the show, which was previously hosted by David Letterman.

“Folks, I’m gonna go ahead and say it: Cancel culture has gone too far,” Colbert said at the start of Monday’s show.
“Over the weekend, it sunk in that they’re killing off our show. But they made one mistake: They left me alive,” he said in a jab at CBS parent company Paramount.
“And now,” he continued, “for the next 10 months, the gloves are off. I can finally speak unvarnished truth to power and say what I really think about Donald Trump, starting right now.”
He followed up by saying, “I don’t care for him. Doesn’t have the skillset to be president. Not a good fit, that’s all.”
But Colbert soon turned his attention to Trump’s celebratory message on Truth Social after news of the show’s cancellation.
“I absolutely love that Colbert’ got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings,” Trump wrote.
“How dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?” Colbert responded by turning to an ‘Eloquence Cam’ during Monday’s show. “Go f**k yourself.”
Trump had also written, “‘I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next,” referring to the ABC late-night talk show host. Colbert addressed that comment as well.
“Nope, no, no. Absolutely not. Kimmel, I am the martyr. There’s only room for one on this cross. And the view is fantastic from up here. I can see your house!” he said.
“How could it be a purely financial decision if The Late Show is number one in ratings? A lot of folks are asking that question, mainly my staff’s parents and spouses,” he quipped.
He spoke of the decision and thanked those who had reached out with messages of support after the announcement last week. Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Jon Oliver, and Jon Stewart made cameos on Monday’s show.
