As promised during the 2024 election, Donald Trump has released 230,000 pages of documents related to the 1968 assassination of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Bottom line up front, although it will take time to read and absorb 230,000 pages, there are those who have already decreed that there is nothing new to see here. That may be so, but in order not to look like a clown it would be best to pretend that you at least skimmed the new stuff. Of course, part of the goal is to make sure that the Trumpers never get credit for anything. Discredit first is the motto of the left.
It was early last evening that the MLK documents were released. Early enough for evening news but too late to give the once over.
According to NBC News, the King files were released to provide a distraction from the Epstein files. These people are not really very bright.
There are family members and others who worry that information about Dr. King’s indiscretions could tarnish his reputation as a civil rights leader. Not likely. That has been public for decades.
According to the New York Post:
The Trump administration on Monday released a massive trove of documents related to the April 1968 assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. as part of an effort “to deliver complete transparency” into the civil rights icon’s murder.
“Today, after nearly 60 years of questions surrounding the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we are releasing 230,000 MLK assassination files,” Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard wrote on X.
Gabbard noted that the documents, released in partnership with the Justice Department, Central Intelligence Agency, National Archives and the FBI, detail the federal investigation into the shooting at Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tenn., which resulted in 39-year-old King’s death.
Information about convicted assassin James Earl Ray’s discussion with a former cellmate about an alleged assassination plot and potential leads the FBI explored after the shooting are included in the documents, according to the director of national intelligence.

These files sat in a warehouse and collected dust. They have not been cared for over the years. They were not digitized and that means that the papers had degraded and are difficult to read now that they have been uploaded. Not everything is difficult to decipher. The CIA made their goal clear “The goal was clear: earn trust early to manage the narrative later. ”
MLK FILES: CIA OFFERED FULL FILES ON DR. KING TO CONGRESS
A 1976 CIA memo proposed giving Congress a full inventory of its files on Dr. King, JFK, and others, anticipating future scrutiny from the House Select Committee on Assassinations.

Speaking of controlling the narrative. Can the family really control the story of a long dead public figure? From CBS:
“While we support transparency and historical accountability, we object to any attacks on our father’s legacy or attempts to weaponize it to spread falsehoods,” the family members said. “Those who promote the fruit of the FBI’s surveillance will unknowingly align themselves with an ongoing campaign to degrade our father and the Civil Rights Movement.”
Bernice King addressed the release of the files in a “Vanity Fair” story Monday, writing, “I wonder why I have to be confronted once again with something that was very confusing and distressing for me as a five-year-old. I am, honestly, not prepared to revisit the gruesome details of this painful history. For me, there is no real value in it; there is only reliving the trauma.” Later Monday, she wrote on X, “Now, do the Epstein files.”
King’s niece, Alveda King, said in ODNI’s statement she supported the release, calling it “a historic step towards the truth that the American people deserve.”
The New York Times has spoken: There is nothing new to see here:
But several noted King historians said they expected little in the way of new revelations about the death of the civil rights leader, and noted that the trove does not include F.B.I. wiretap recordings and other material that remain under court seal until 2027. (New York Times reporters are reviewing the documents and will be making updates to this article.)
The records, released in response to an executive order signed by President Trump shortly after he took office, were made public at a time when Mr. Trump and his staff have sought to divert attention from right-wing backlash regarding files related to the death of the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
There’s a bucket of cold water for you. More:
David Garrow, author of a Pulitzer Prize-winning King biography as well as a book about the F.B.I.’s spying campaign on him, said his quick review of the files led him to conclude that there’s little of public interest. “I saw nothing that struck me as new,” he said.
We need Trump hater Larry Sabato to put in a word here.

Not excited to find any new nuggets that might shed light, just mad that Donald Trump is President.
