Over the last week, some House Democrats have been making a big push to get the Jeffrey Epstein files released.
For years, the Dems just ignored the matter, likely because everyone knows that former President Bill Clinton was in this mess up to his eyeballs.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), however, may have just derailed any momentum Democrats had on this particular issue.
Don’t care
The only reason this is now a “thing” for Democrats is that Trump administration officials are claiming there is no Epstein client list.
Several Democrats pounced on this narrative, insinuating that Donald Trump himself must be implicated in the files, which is why the GOP is now preventing their release.
Trump, in return, ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to release all relevant Epstein grand jury testimony, something which seems to suggest a lack of concern on the president’s part about his name appearing in the materials..
Jeffries is not playing the game like his fellow Democrats, who are now just grabbing headlines.
The House Democrat leader stated, “The far right, Donald Trump, right-wing conspiracy theorists and others are the ones who have put this Jeffrey Epstein thing in the public domain.”
He went on, “No one looking at the facts disputes that this isn’t anything that any of us as House Democrats have been focused on ever — in terms of trying to fan the flames of what may or may not happen.”
Jeffries added, “Once it has broken into the public domain, and there’s a clear desire on behalf of the American people to get more information, then the right thing to do is to present the facts and the evidence to the American people.”
Of course, Democrats were not talking about it… and we all know why. It is Democrats who have always been tied to Epstein, but I suspect that file is packed with high-ranking officials in both the private and government sectors. Because of that, I think Trump made the call to just bury the files rather than topple everyone.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) responded to Jeffries’ comments, stating, “House Republicans aren’t going to be lectured on transparency from the Democrat Party that worked to cover up President Biden’s lack of fitness for office and his scandalous use of the autopen.”
Johnson is now trying to tamp down this effort by Democrats, saying he will not be opening up the floor to new business until after the House returns from its upcoming recess.
Hopefully, by then, this will be out of the news cycle and we can get back to reporting on the things that really matter.
The good news for Trump on this is that while MAGA was clearly upset over a perceived lack of transparency, it has not cost the president any appreciable support from his base.
