Former Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz identified two prominent Democratic officials on Sunday as individuals named in documents linked to the Jeffrey Epstein case, reigniting debate over what remains hidden in sealed court records.
In an interview on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream, Dershowitz explained that although there was no official “client list” tied to Epstein, other documents and investigative records contain the names of high-profile individuals.
Dershowitz previously represented Epstein during the disgraced financier’s 2008 legal proceedings, which ended in a plea deal for soliciting prostitution from a minor.
Bream asked Dershowitz if the names in question were part of any grand jury transcripts and whether a judge might authorize their release.
Dershowitz replied, “I think the judge should release it, but they’re not in the grand jury transcripts.”
He elaborated that multiple federal judges in New York are in possession of sealed records.
“There are sealed records by two or three federal judges in the New York courts. I’ve seen some of these materials,” Dershowitz said.
He specifically referenced an FBI report that includes interviews with alleged victims.
“At least one of the victims names very important people, and the names have been redacted,” he said. “I know some of the names from my investigation.”
According to Dershowitz, among those named were George Mitchell, a former Democratic senator from Maine and U.S. Senate majority leader, and Bill Richardson, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and Governor of New Mexico.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak was also mentioned.
“George Mitchell … Bill Richardson … Ehud Barak … were all accused,” Dershowitz stated.
“Now, whether any of these people actually did anything wrong, we don’t know, because we know there have been many, many false accusations.”
Mitchell, 91, retired from politics in 2011. Richardson passed away in 2023.
The Western Journal has highlighted that Dershowitz himself was accused of misconduct in connection with Epstein by Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s most well-known accusers.
In a 2019 statement, Giuffre claimed she had been forced to have sex with Dershowitz at Epstein’s direction.
Dershowitz denied the claim and pursued a defamation lawsuit against Giuffre. In 2022, she dropped the suit and said she “may have made a mistake.”
During the Fox News interview, Dershowitz also mentioned another woman, Sarah Ransome, who submitted an affidavit making sensational claims against public figures. A
According to Dershowitz, “She accused Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Richard Branson of having sex with young people.”
Ransome allegedly claimed to possess videotapes as evidence, but later admitted she fabricated the entire story. “She said she had videotapes of this, and then after an investigation, she admitted that she made up the whole story,” Dershowitz said.
The New Yorker reported in 2019 that Ransome had told the New York Post in 2016 she had recordings of six public figures. When asked to produce the tapes, she could not.
The magazine wrote, “Ransome [said] that she had invented the tapes to draw attention to Epstein’s behavior, and to make him believe that she had ‘evidence that would come out if he harmed me.’”
Despite admitting the fabrication, her affidavit allegedly remains sealed in court records.
Dershowitz stated, “So we have to distinguish true accusations from false accusations.”
