President Donald Trump has recorded a sharp rebound in support among baby boomers, a critical and historically dependable voting bloc.
According to new data from Quantus Insights, Trump’s approval among Americans aged 65 and older has shifted significantly in his favor, just months before the 2026 midterm elections. However, Knewz.com has learned that this momentum may face a significant test following the passage of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” which is projected to dramatically cut Medicaid funding, thus potentially affecting millions of elderly Americans.
Polls Show Trump Gaining Significant Ground Among Baby Boomers

The Quantus Insights poll showed Trump gaining significant ground among baby boomers. His approval rating with voters over 65 jumped from 49% in June to 56% in July, with disapproval falling to 41%, showing a net 15-point shift in just a few weeks.
According to reports, the rebound offers a potential cushion for Trump as he heads into a high-stakes midterm cycle, where senior turnout will again be decisive. Reports have further pointed out that this renewed support mirrors trends from 2024, when Trump secured 51% of the 65 and above vote, contributing heavily to his electoral victory. With baby boomers constituting one of the most reliable voting cohorts, particularly in swing states, the upswing signals renewed enthusiasm from a demographic once considered politically vital during his presidency.
Other Polls Show Consistent or Declining Support Among the Demographic

Although the Quantus poll showed a growing support for President Trump among baby boomers, other polls have shown flat or declining support for the President. For instance, a YouGov/Economist poll recorded a consistent 45% approval and 53% disapproval among over-65s in both May and June.
On the other hand, the ActiVote poll noted a decline from 48% approval in May to 42% in June. Marist Polling’s June results showed a 41% approval and 58% disapproval among Americans over 60, which is virtually unchanged from April. Fox News polls showed only a slight uptick, from 43% in April to 46% in June. Reports predict that Trump’s approval among baby boomers is likely to fluctuate throughout his second term.
‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ Could Threaten Trump’s Approval Rating Among Baby Boomers, Reports Say

Trump’s flagship spending bill, dubbed the “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” is a sweeping piece of legislation that cuts $1.1 trillion in healthcare spending, including deep reductions in Medicaid. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill could cause 11.8 million Americans to lose Medicaid coverage over the next decade. This directly threatens a significant portion of the senior population. As of 2021, about 9.4 million Americans aged 65 and older were enrolled in Medicaid.
According to reports, many of them are “dual eligibles” who depend on both Medicare and Medicaid for comprehensive care, including nursing home support. More than 60% of U.S. nursing home residents rely on Medicaid to cover long-term care expenses, according to the Brookings Institution.
Voter Backlash Growing Over Trump’s Flagship Spending Bill

Notably, Trump’s presidential campaign promises included explicit pledges not to cut Medicaid, Medicare, or Social Security. The contradiction between those pledges and the new legislation could prove politically costly, especially as details of the bill become more widely understood.
Furthermore, public opinion polls have already shown clear opposition to Trump’s healthcare cuts.
Knewz.com reported earlier, “A poll conducted by Quinnipiac from June 22-24 indicates that 55 percent of Americans oppose the legislation, while a Fox News survey from June 13-16 shows an even higher opposition rate of 59 percent. Meanwhile, a KFF poll from June 4-8 indicates that disapproval has swelled to a staggering 64 percent.”
