Speaker Mike Johnson on Monday marked the one-year anniversary of former President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race by posting a 14-minute montage of Democrats claiming he was mentally fit.
Biden dropped out of his reelection campaign on July 21, 2024, following a calamitous June 27 debate performance, during which the former president often stood with his mouth agape, appeared to freeze up and tripped over words. However, Democrats consistently denied that Biden had any mental acuity issues, as shown in the montage.

“A year ago today, President Biden’s disastrous debate performance ended his re-election campaign and exposed the largest political cover-up in U.S. history,” Johnson wrote on X.
“As House Republicans investigate the scandal to bring accountability, the American people should never forget how far Democrats and the media went to hide the truth about the mental decline of the man holding the most powerful position on earth,” he added. “Here is just a small sample of the receipts.”
The montage begins with Democratic Michigan Rep. Debbie Dingell, former Biden campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu, former chief of staff Ron Klain, former Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Democratic California Rep. Nancy Pelosi all saying Biden was “on his game” or at the “top of his game.”
The montage also featured Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren attempting to defend Biden’s mental fitness on “Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso” in April.
“[H]e was sharp. He was on his feet,” Warren said.
Warren was far from the only Democrat to describe Biden as “sharp,” the montage shows.
Moreover, it featured Democratic Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet struggling in May to answer political analyst Mark Halperin’s question on “Next Up With Mark Halperin” regarding whether the reason the senator said Biden shouldn’t have run for reelection was due to mental deterioration.
“Well, I think that, again, I have not made a personal assessment, you know, at that time, certainly, of Joe Biden’s mental decline,” Bennet responded. “I think he was not in a position to wage a vigorous campaign against [President Donald] Trump, whether it was mental or physical, and we paid a heavy price for his decision to run again.”
Furthermore, it featured former President Bill Clinton on “CBS Sunday Morning” denying in June that he had ever seen “any cognitive decline” from Biden.
“I had never seen him and walked away thinking he can’t do this anymore,” Clinton said. “He was always on top of his brief.”
The video concluded with Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett acknowledging on “Eye On Politics” in May that even if Biden was cognitively impaired, she was fine with it.
“If Joe Biden was like mentally deficient in some way and he was still able to keep this sucker on the tracks, then give me a mentally deficient Joe Biden any given day over Donald Trump,” Crockett said.
Special counsel Robert Hur published a February 2024 report finding that Biden had mishandled classified documents, but he declined to bring charges against the then-president. The special counsel cited the likely difficulty of persuading a jury, given Biden might be perceived as “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson also co-authored a May book titled “Original Sin,” reporting that Biden’s staffers, cabinet officials and Democratic lawmakers hid the former president’s deterioration to bolster his reelection odds.
