NYC Off-Duty Border Patrol Officer Shot in Face During Robbery by Previously Busted Illegal Immigrant

A previously busted illegal immigrant named Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, who is a 21-year-old Dominican national with a long rap sheet, shot an off-duty US Customs and Border Protection officer in the face Saturday night after robbing him in a park.

Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, is accused of shooting a brave U.S. Border Patrol agent.

He had previously been deported but illegally re-entered the United States — and was released under the Biden administration.

Brutal attack leaves officer with life-threatening wounds

Mora Nunez was reportedly on a moped when he committed the robbery and shot the officer.

The 42-year-old federal agent was sitting with a female companion on a rock along the Hudson River in Fort Washington Park in Manhattan when two men ambushed them at about 11:50 p.m. After a brief fight, the attacker on the moped shot the officer in the face and the left forearm.

The Border Patrol agent fired back multiple times, wounding his attacker, according to the New York Post. Mora Nunez was hit three times, with at least one wound to his chest.

Harrowing video released by DHS caught one suspect hopping off the moped and approaching the CBP officer before firing shots at him — then reeling back after the officer returned fire. The suspects eventually fled on the moped, the video showed.

Attacker with a long rap sheet released each time he was arrested

The illegal immigrant was released every time he was arrested, despite having a deportation order issued against him. He originally crossed the southern border illegally under the Biden administration, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Fox News reported that he was caught at the Arizona border in April 2023 but was set free because of a lack of space at a border detention facility. He was laughably given a notice to appear in front of a judge. An immigration judge issued a removal order against Mora Nunez in 2023.

President Trump is enraged over the attack

President Trump was furious over the incident and the fact that the violent illegal immigrant was allowed to remain in the country.

“Last night, in New York City, an incredible CBP Officer was shot in the face by an Illegal Alien Monster freed into the Country under Joe Biden. He was apprehended at the Border in April 2023 but, instead of being deported, was RELEASED. The CBP Officer bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous Skill and Courage,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“The Democrats have flooded our Nation with Criminal Invaders, and now, they must all be thrown out or, in some cases, immediately prosecuted in that we cannot take a chance that they are able to come back. That’s how evil and dangerous they are!” the president angrily added.

The shooter is in custody; another attacker is still at large

Mora Nunez is now in custody after he walked into a Bronx hospital to get treatment for his gunshot wounds. The second attacker is still at large.

The Border Patrol officer underwent surgery on Sunday and is now reportedly in stable condition, according to DHS. It’s a miracle that he will live after being shot in the face at such close range.

The illegal immigrant is a repeat felon and wanted on numerous charges

Mora Nunez is currently wanted on kidnapping and weapons charges out of Massachusetts. It’s just unbelievable that he was allowed to walk time and again under blue city sanctuary laws.

He was busted at least four times in New York City and was released on bail each and every time. The illegal immigrant was arrested twice just days apart in August 2024 for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman and threatening to murder another migrant with a machete. He was also arrested in November 2024 for violating an order of protection and had a bench warrant issued for his arrest in January 2025.

Incredibly, none of those charges should have been eligible for bail. Since New York City is a sanctuary city, he was also not remanded to ICE even though he had an active deportation order issued against him. There are probably thousands more like this illegal immigrant who have been allowed to roam the streets and commit crimes with the blessings of Democrats.

“With all these laws and policies, we are still missing the guy that matters. They’re still missing the criminals,” a police officer commented, according to the New York Post. “This is failure at every level.”
