Justice just showed up at the front door in Memphis—and this time, it came with a loaded magazine and a clear message: don’t break into someone’s home and expect sympathy.
A Memphis mother will not be charged after defending her home from three intruders who kicked in her front door. The dramatic confrontation ended when she fired a single shot, critically injuring one of the suspects—21-year-old Kimari Burnham.
Authorities say Burnham, along with Dejwan Payne and Nala Kelley, showed up uninvited, began banging on the door, and issued threats loud enough for neighbors to hear. Moments later, Burnham and Kelley kicked down the door, knocking it clean off the hinges.
That’s when the homeowner, with her children in the house, fired once—hitting Burnham and sending the trio scrambling.

Burnham was rushed to the hospital, while Kelley and Payne were taken into custody. All three now face aggravated burglary charges, and two of them are also charged with vandalism.
Memphis police reviewed the footage, gathered witness statements, and concluded the homeowner acted within her rights. No charges will be filed.
This is why the Second Amendment matters. A mother protected her kids, her home, and her life—and for once, the system didn’t punish her for it.
