What was meant to be a lively evening of singing and celebration quickly turned into a horrifying nightmare in Ohio, after a 59-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his ex-wife’s boyfriend in cold blood during a karaoke performance.
On the evening of July 11, patrons at the normally peaceful Louie’s Corner House bar in Buckeye Lake were enjoying the music and friendly atmosphere until tragedy struck. Benjamin Hawk, known affectionately to locals for his love of music, was joyfully performing karaoke on stage when the night took a shocking and deadly turn.
Without warning, Richard Lindgren, the ex-husband of Hawk’s girlfriend, reportedly approached the stage from behind, pulling out a firearm and brutally shooting Hawk in the back of the head in full view of horrified onlookers. Chaos erupted in the bar as Lindgren swiftly fled, leaving behind stunned patrons who scrambled for cover.
Authorities launched an immediate and intense manhunt for Lindgren. Acting on multiple tips and a multi-state effort, deputies from the Licking County Sheriff’s Office tracked Lindgren down the very next day in South Carolina, over 500 miles from the scene of the crime. Lindgren was swiftly apprehended and subsequently extradited back to Ohio on July 15 to face justice.
Now behind bars, Lindgren is facing a murder charge, and his bond has been set at an astonishing $5 million, reflecting the severity and shocking brutality of his alleged crime. Authorities have remained tight-lipped about Lindgren’s precise motive, but local speculation centers around jealousy and unresolved tensions stemming from his previous marriage.
The entire Buckeye Lake community has been rocked by the brutal murder, leaving friends and neighbors deeply shaken and mourning the loss of a beloved local figure whose life was violently cut short in what should have been an evening of relaxation and fun. Many in the community are demanding answers and justice, as they attempt to come to terms with the senseless tragedy.
