The woke mob thought they could sneak their agenda past Florida.
They were dead wrong.
And James Uthmeier discovered one loophole that left woke swimmers completely rattled.
Florida takes aim at woke swimming organization
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier isn’t playing games when it comes to protecting women’s sports in the Sunshine State.
The conservative champion just put U.S. Masters Swimming on notice that their woke policies won’t fly in Florida.
And he’s prepared to take them to court if they don’t comply.
U.S. Masters Swimming is a national organization that provides membership benefits to nearly 60,000 swimmers across the country.
But they’ve been letting biological men compete against women in swimming events for years.
Now Florida is saying enough is enough.
“We will hold you accountable if you are going to endanger our women and girls,” Uthmeier declared during a recent press conference in Orlando.¹

The attorney general made it crystal clear that his office plans to issue a formal letter to the organization with a hard deadline for compliance.
“So we hope they will do the right thing and quickly certify in writing that they are going to ensure that no men are able to participate in any event with women, and if they don’t do so, then we will pursue additional legal action,” Uthmeier added.²
This isn’t just political posturing.
Florida means business.
The woke swimming policy that’s got Florida fired up
U.S. Masters Swimming thought they could pull a fast one on conservatives with their latest policy update.
In June, the organization unveiled new participation guidelines that sound good on paper but are full of dangerous loopholes.
The new policy states that “USMS allows members to register for the competition category that aligns with their gender identity and/or expression and to participate in sanctioned events in that category.”³
But here’s where it gets tricky.
The policy goes on to say that swimmers won’t be included in recognition programs unless they’re swimming in the category that aligns with their biological sex “or they meet the eligibility requirements.”⁴
That phrase “eligibility requirements” is where the trouble starts.
According to the policy, “Members with 46 XY DSD whose gender identity or gender expression is female are eligible for Recognition Programs in the women’s category if they can establish to USMS’s comfortable satisfaction that their sex assigned at birth is female.”⁵
Translation: biological males can still find a way to compete against women if they jump through the right hoops.
Uthmeier wasn’t having any of it.
“This is not acceptable and does not fly with Florida law,” he told Fox 35 Orlando.⁶
“This is not right. We will use every tool at our disposal… to ensure that we are protecting women and girls.”

Florida’s track record on protecting women’s sports
This isn’t the first time Florida has stood up to the woke sports establishment.
The state has already passed laws prohibiting transgender girls and women from competing in girls’ and women’s sports at public schools and colleges.
Governor Ron DeSantis made headlines in 2022 when he declared the second-place swimmer the real champion after a transgender athlete won an NCAA Division One title at a meet in Florida.
“We’re the state that woke goes to die, and that’s going to continue,” Uthmeier said.⁷
“We will always fight for what’s right and just.”
The attorney general was joined at the press conference by Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas and Kim Jones, co-founder of the Independent Council on Women’s Sports.
Jones has been involved in lawsuits challenging transgender athlete participation in women’s sports at various levels.
The Independent Council on Women’s Sports has become a powerful advocate for biological women in athletics.
The swimming organization’s weak defense
U.S. Masters Swimming has tried to defend their policy by claiming it aligns with World Aquatics’ eligibility guidelines.
But that’s not good enough for Florida.
The organization confirmed that under its current policy, transgender women are ineligible for records, Top 10 rankings, or awards in the women’s category.
However, they can still compete in the category that aligns with their so-called “gender identity.”
That means biological men can still swim against women in actual competitions.
They just can’t officially win awards or set records.
But tell that to the women who have to compete against athletes with clear biological advantages.
U.S. Masters Swimming has not disclosed how many of its nearly 60,000 members are transgender.
The organization declined to comment when contacted by multiple news outlets.
The case that sparked Florida’s action
This controversy didn’t happen in a vacuum.
U.S. Masters Swimming came under fire earlier this year when a transgender swimmer won five gold medals in the women’s category.
Louisiana woman and longtime swimmer Wendy Enderle filed a request for an eligibility review after discovering that one of the competitors she’d faced for years was transgender.
Because the meet took place in San Antonio, Texas, that state’s attorney general, Ken Paxton, launched an investigation into whether the organization’s policies violated Texas’ consumer protection laws.
Now Florida is joining the fight.
Uthmeier has made it clear that he’ll use civil rights, anti-discrimination, and consumer protection laws to address the issue.
“It still seems insane to me that we’re having this conversation in this country, but we will always fight for what’s right in Florida,” he said.⁸
The attorney general plans to send a formal letter to U.S. Masters Swimming CEO Dawson Hughes demanding they correct their policy or face the consequences.
This is exactly the kind of leadership Americans expect from Florida.
While other states cave to woke pressure, Florida continues to stand up for common sense and women’s rights.
The message is clear: if you want to push radical gender ideology, don’t try it in the Sunshine State.
Florida has become the national leader in fighting back against woke policies that harm women and girls.
And Attorney General Uthmeier is proving that Florida won’t back down from this fight.
