Councilor Angelita Sanchez Announces Run for Oregon State Representative
Sweet Home Leader Launches Campaign to Represent Rural Voices and Restore Accountability in Salem
Sweet Home, OR – Angelita Sanchez, a respected community advocate, mother, and small business owner from Sweet Home, has officially announced her candidacy for the Oregon House of Representatives. Sanchez will file to run to represent House District 11, pledging to bring common sense, courage, and rural representation back to Salem.
“Our part of Oregon is full of hard-working families who feel forgotten,” said Sanchez. “I am running to make sure their voices are heard loud and clear in the Capitol. We need another representative who understands our way of life—and is willing to fight for it.”
A 7th generation Oregonian, Sanchez has deep roots in Sweet Home and the surrounding communities. Her distant grandfather Frank Kropf is the “Father of the Ryegrass Industry.” He put up his own land to get the irrigation those farmers needed. Her grandfather Ralph Myers worked in the mills and gave her the love of forestry. She saw what it did to him when the mills closed. She knows what our valley needs, and she is putting up her own time and treasure to serve.
Sanchez has worked in the legislature under the leadership of Senator Cedric Hayden (R-Fall Creek), the last two years. She knows the issues in the healthcare industry and the transportation sector that need to be addressed before they break Oregon’s budget and leave families without resources and services. She is ready to take that with real solutions.
“Angelita has earned my endorsement for the Oregon House of Representatives because she’s proven herself to be a true grassroots advocate for the people of her community,” said Senator Cedric Hayden, who serves as the state senator whose district covers House District 11. “Not only has she been a strong voice serving as a City Councilor in Sweet Home, she’s served in our Senate office as my legislative aid engaging in complicated topics like health care, transportation taxes, and civil rights for families and people with disabilities. Her constituent service work is excellent. She has earned her place to serve as a State Representative through her actions and her heart for the people of this state.”
During her time serving this state, Sanchez has been successful by:
- Helping Defeat Measure 117, Rank Choice Voting;
- Giving more power back to the people of Sweet Home to directly elect their mayor;
- Helping Defeat cap and trade taxes by organizing people who would be impacted;
- Organizing grassroots opposition from around the state to halt the current transportation package HB 2025;
- Supporting a senior property tax freeze which was sponsored as SJR 1 at her request in 2025 which she will bring back again in 2027 if elected;
- Standing up in opposition to deep drawdowns of local reservoirs because our rural way of life matters.
- Opposed the COVID mandates that hurt small businesses, state workers, and families;
- Advocated to securing $500K for local public safety from the State Legislature;
- Advocated to secure $3 million for all of the Linn County homelessness funding from The State Legislature;
- Joining recruiting efforts for a full police staff for the City of Sweet home; and
- Being a consistent voice against taxes and fee increases at the local and state level.
Sanchez’s campaign will focus on:
- Protecting rural jobs and natural resource industries;
- Defending parental rights and educational choice;
- Securing our communities and standing with law enforcement;
- Rejecting unfunded mandates and urban overreach from Salem; and
- Putting working Oregonians—not bureaucrats—first!
