This week, a bombshell announcement was made by CBS-Paramount.
The Late Show with Stephen ColbertĀ is being canceled, with the final show set to air in the spring of next year.
Not surprisingly, President Donald Trump was elated by the news.
Gone
The news was greeted by the expected outrage on the left and among Democrats.
I say expected, because these late-night TV shows have been nothing more than an extension of the Democratic Party for years.
Rather than entertaining people, the likes of Jimmy Kimmel and Colbert have taken to lecturing viewers about the evils of the conservative movement in this country.
The narrative is already being pushed that CBS- Paramount canceled the show to pacify Trump in the wake of his massive lawsuit against the network
To that point, numerous Democrat members of Congress are now calling for an investigation into the cancellation of the show, which is a ridiculous waste of taxpayer money.
The network tried to put that narrative to rest, stating, āWe consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire āThe Late Showā franchiseā in May of 2026.”
The statement continued, āWe are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television.Ā This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.”
It went on, āIt is not related in any way to the showās performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.ā
Trump, however, was elated, posting, āI absolutely love that Colbertā got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!ā
The president added, āGreg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.ā
The man who paved the way for all these late-night shows, Johnny Carson, was once asked about making political comments over and above his jokes, and he gave a very clear answer as to why he steered clear of this trap.
While making political jokes was part of his job, he acknowledged, he never took a side because he did not believe it was his role to do so.
He was there for entertainment, not for lectures and social posturing, and that is a lesson that todayās late-night hosts should take to heart.
