President John F. Kennedy’s assassination has generated more conspiracies and left more unanswered questions than arguably any other singular event in U.S. — and perhaps world — history.
That’s why shockwaves were sent across the nation this week after it was announced that Russia plans on releasing Soviet-era KGB records on the JFK assassination, sparking a renewed curiosity in what the Russians knew about his death.
According to reports, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) announced this week that the Russians will release their files in the coming months, raising eyebrows as to what the Soviet-era KGB knew, and what might be revealed within those decades-old records.
JFK researchers and those who believe versions of the many conspiracy theories surrounding his assassination are waiting with bated breath to see what comes of it.
What’s going on?
In an interview with NewsNation, Rep. Luna said that she believes Russia will be releasing the information “pretty soon.”
“It’s information the Russian government was in charge of releasing, and I’m sure that you’ll see that information coming out here pretty soon,” Luna told NewsNation.
She added, “There is some level of open communication, and so as a result of that, that information will now be available in the coming months to the American people and also to JFK researchers.”
The outlet noted:
Luna, the chairwoman of the House Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, said the Trump administration is finally obtaining files from Russia surrounding the assassination after the United States previously tried and failed in the 1990s to obtain the documents.
Luna suggested that the release of the files could shed light on the possible involvement of the CIA in JFK’s death, which she has suggested before.
“The CIA was involved.” 🚨 On July 5, 2025, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna confirmed in a IG post that newly released CIA documents tie CIA psychological warfare officer George Joannides to covert operations involving Lee Harvey Oswald before JFK’s assassination. The officer later lied… pic.twitter.com/y4REHJes1J

The upcoming Russian file release generated plenty of feedback across social media.
Social media reacts
Many believe that the CIA was involved in JFK’s death, and hope to confirm that with future file and report releases.
“Kennedy was trying to reveal who was really running the country,” one X user wrote.
Another X user wrote, “Funny Kennedy wanted to dismantle the CIA. I want Trump to dismantle the CIA. They have metal in US politics and they have metal in politics. Worldwide enough is enough needs to be dismantled.”
Only time will tell if Russia holds the key to solving the decades-old assassination mystery.
