Newly fired federal prosecutor Maurene Comey sounded a lot like her sanctimonious father in a farewell missive to colleagues after she was given the boot by the Justice Department.
Comey, the daughter of disgraced former FBI Director James Comey, was a member of the prestigious Manhattan-based office of the Southern District of New York (SDNY) until was unexpectedly sacked on Wednesday.
She had worked on several high-profile criminal cases including those of notorious sex trafficking financier Jeffrey Epstein, his madame Ghislaine Maxwell and rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs but now finds herself looking for a new career and she fired a parting shot at the Trump administration in the letter that hyperbolically proclaimed “fear is the tool of a tyrant” in a veiled shot at the president who fired her dad.
Yesterday, Maurene Comey, who prosecuted the Epstein case, was summarily fired from SDNY. Her letter to colleagues pulls no punches. “Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought.”

“Yesterday was unexpectedly my last day in the Office. I was summarily fired via memo from Main Justice that did not give a reason for my termination,” Comey began.
“Every person lucky enough to work in this office constantly hears four words to describe our ethos: Without Fear or Favor. Do the right thing, the right way, for the right reasons without fear of retribution and without favor to the powerful,” she wrote.
“For the majority of my nearly ten years in SDNY, fear was never really conceivable. We don’t fear bad press; we have the luxury of exceptional security keeping us physically safe; and, so long as we did our work with integrity, we would get to keep serving the public in this office,” the letter read.
“Our focus was really on acting ‘without favor.’ That is, making sure people with access, money, and power were not treated differently than anyone else; and making sure this office remained separate from politics and focused only on the facts and the law,” Comey continued.
“But we have entered a new phase where ‘without fear’ may be the challenge,” she wrote. “If a career prosecutor can be fired without reason, fear may seep into the decisions of those who remain. Do not let that happen. Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought.”
“Instead of fear, let this moment fuel the fire that already burns at the heart of this place. A fire of righteous indignation at abuses of power. Of commitment to seek justice for victims. Of dedication to truth above all else,” the now-unemployed prosecutor concluded.
The senior Comey who was a key figure in the thoroughly discredited Russiagate and sought to pressure the incoming president with the infamous “dirty dossier” was fired by Trump in 2017. He is now under investigation by the second Trump administration along with ex-CIA Director John Brennan for potential wrongdoing in the Russia probe.
A longtime critic of the man who sacked him, Comey recently came under fire for posting a picture of seashells on the beach reading “86 47,” which some believed was a dog whistle for Trump’s assassination. He then claimed that he didn’t know that it meant.
NEW: James Comey deletes his “8647” post from Instagram and posts a “clarification” post, claims he had no clue the numbers were associated with violence.
“I didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence …”

“He knew exactly what that meant. A child knows what that meant. If you’re the FBI director and you don’t know what that meant, that meant assassination,” Trump told Fox News anchor Bret Baier.
