Rep. John Lawn, the Watertown Democrat who chairs the influential Committee on Health Care Financing, was arrested for operating under the influence near the Massachusetts State House early Wednesday morning, Boston police said.
Lawn was arrested at about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday by the Boston Police Department, with assistance from the Mass. State Police, on two misdemeanor charges: OUI and leaving a scene where there was property damage, BPD said.
A bystander at the corner of Beacon and Bowdoin streets, by the state house, flagged down an officer about 1:17 a.m., according to an arrest report. A witness saw a vehicle, later determined to be Lawn’s, hit a parked vehicle, then drive off, running through a pair of stop signs. The crash caused damage to both vehicles.
Lawn smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot and glassy eyes and slurred speech, according to the arrest report.
The Suffolk District Attorney’s Office said the 56-year-old was expected to be arraigned Thursday in Boston Municipal Court.
