A Florida man is facing serious charges after allegedly trying to run over a group of kids who ding-dong ditched his house.
According to records from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, 51-year-old John P. Albanos was arrested on July 12 and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony. He was released on bond the following day and is scheduled to appear in court in early August.
The incident happened in Naples, Florida, where police say a group of kids on scooters were ringing doorbells and running away—a classic prank known as “ding-dong ditching.” According to Gulf Coast News, the kids had pulled the stunt at several homes along 28th Ave. when they got to Albanos’ door.
But instead of brushing it off, Albanos allegedly snapped. Police say he jumped in his car and began chasing the children down the street.
The kids ran for cover into a neighbor’s yard, trying to escape the vehicle. A witness who saw the chaos unfold called 911 and reportedly tried to calm Albanos down and direct him away from the frightened kids.
While no one was hurt, the charges Albanos now faces are serious. The Naples Police Department has yet to issue a public statement on the case.
