The Department of Justice arrested and charged a man who worked for Voice of America for threatening U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, the DOJ announced Thursday, July 17. A grand jury indicted Seth Jason, 64, for influencing a federal official by threatening a family member, influencing a federal official by threat, interstate communications with a threat to kidnap or injure and anonymous telecommunications harassment.
Jason, a resident of Maryland, has been indicted for allegedly placing multiple threatening phone calls to the Georgia congresswoman’s offices in Rome and Dalton, Ga. According to the indictment, Jason used various phone lines at the Voice of America headquarters in Washington, D.C., where he was a longtime employee, to issue threats to kidnap or harm Greene and her family. He is accused of making at least eight such calls between Oct. 11, 2023, and Jan. 21, 2025.
In March, Greene, as chair of a DOGE subcommittee, said she was leading an investigation into the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), a U.S. government-funded media agency that operates globally, which oversees Voice of America (VOA). Greene told Fox News she was investigating “gross negligence” and “rampant cronyism” within the government media organization.
DOJ: Jason made threatening calls from VOA headquarters
During a news conference Thursday, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said Jason threatened to murder Greene and her family.
“Now, the quotes included statements like: ‘I’m looking forward to your book signing. We are all armed and ready to take care of you.’ ‘We’re coming after you and your staff.’ And, ‘We are locked and loaded. We are going to take you all out. We’ve got our AK-47s. You’re gonna get one between the eyes. Bam, bam, bam,’” Pirro said.
Jason was a volunteer at police department
Jason also served as a volunteer with the Anne Arundel County Police Department, which later assisted the U.S. Capitol Police in facilitating his arrest.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department released a statement regarding Jason, saying:
“On July 17, 2025, a volunteer with the Anne Arundel County Police Reserve Officer Unit was arrested by the United States Capitol Police and charged with threatening a federal official and related offenses. The reserve officer is identified as Mr. Seth Jason, who has served as a volunteer since 2016. Anne Arundel County Reserve Officers are unarmed and have no police authority. Mr. Jason is no longer affiliated with the Anne Arundel County Police Department.”
Arrest follows recent political violence targeting MN lawmakers
Jason’s arrest comes a month after Vance Boelter was arrested for allegedly carrying out a politically motivated assassination on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Boelter is accused of shooting and killing Democratic House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and shooting State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, who were both hospitalized and survived.
